Moving cross country… Who to talk to?
I’m trying to get some info from anyone who has done this before or may know of people who I should contact.

There was a tragedy in my family recently and I have decided to move back to my old home to take care of things and make things easier on my family by relocating there. The only issue right now is who to talk to and who comes recommended or to avoid at all costs.

I am needing to move over 1300 miles (Texas to Pennsylvania) and I am not going to take the option of renting a truck and driving it. I have no choice but to do this alone and I would feel MUCH better if I just drive my car at my own pace and not have to deal with towing it behind a huge truck. I know many people do it, but I don’t feel comfortable doing it at all, especially since it will be during the winter months (Dec-Jan) and who know’s what the roads will be like. I would just rather pay someone to move my stuff.

I have never moved an entire large apartment’s worth of furniture cross country like this before and one issue that I can say I am going to just deal with is that I will not be selling any of my current furniture, nor lightening my load just for the sake of moving less stuff, which I have been told to consider.

I have read up on a few moving companies, but what I am struggling with is understanding the price discrepancies. I have seen rates as low as $700 and as high as $1500 to move my stuff. (Those were just instant online quotes I received…) I read up on both companies and saw mixed reviews for each. I was actually disappointed to read more bad reviews for the more expensive company, however I guess it’s always a bit of a risk no matter who you go with?

So I’m here now reaching out for answers from anyone who may have used a moving company to move an entire large apartment cross-country like this and if they have any recommendations based on experience. Non-experience works for me too.

As for the details, I’ve calculated it to fill close to a 16-foot Penske trailer… maybe slightly larger, depending on the company or height of the truck used. I’d like to try to keep the price as close to $1000 or less for the move – but for me it’s more about quality (of the moving) over quantity (cost of moving) at this point. Planned move date – Anytime between Dec 20 through Dec 28. I know that it’s right during the Christmas holiday but I have no choice but to move before Dec 29 as that is when my lease will end.

Normally something like this should be simple and I could probably handle it just by making a few phone calls. But in this case, and due to the family crisis that is going on at home now, I just have to try and reach out in other ways and just haven’t had enough time to think about things that are further down the road.

Thanks for the help.
