IMDB rating: 5.60 Plot: Alex Rose (Stiller) and Nancy Kendricks (Barrymore) are a young, professional, New York couple in search of their dream home. When they finally find the perfect Brooklyn brownstone they are giddy with anticipation. The duplex is a dream come true, complete with multiple fireplaces, except for one thing: Mrs. Connelly (Eileen Essel), the cranky old lady who lives on the rent-controlled top floor. Assuming she is elderly and ill, they take the apartment but their hopes are quickly dashed when they realize that Mrs. Connelly is an energetic senior who enjoys watching her television at top volume day in and day out and rehearsing in a brass band. A writer, Alex is attempting to finish his novel against a looming deadline. However, each day as he begins to write, he is interrupted by Mrs. Connelly’s numerous demands and requests and what begins as a nuisance quickly escalates into an all-out war. When Nancy loses her job and the pair are trapped at home together with Mrs. Connelly, their rage turns to homicidal fantasy as they plot ways to get rid of their no-good neighbour… |

Need some personal advice?
I am a single mom of a 5 year old little girl. She is in kindergarten. We currently live in a 2 bedroom apartment. We pay $595/mo. The apartment is NOISY b/c of the neighbors upstairs. We have no washer/dryer connections (even though they told me we would). I have an offer to move into a 2 bedroom duplex for $500/mo. It has washer connections and is VERY quiet. I am just afraid of uprooting my daughter and making a mistake. I will have to break my lease, which would affect my credit – but it is shot anyway, so no biggy, I just get antzy. Any suggestions or advice would be awesome – thanks! 
does your present lease say that you would have hookups for w/d? if so then the land lord is in violation and you can move. also depending on how big an A-hole they want to be, they can take you to court for any damages and what ever the remainder of the least is.

See if your landlord will let you sublet your apartment until your lease is up. Then
move to the new apartment. Don’t worry about uprooting your daughter. She is
young enough and if you make it an adventure she will not be bothered by the move.

If they lied to you about the connections they have already violated the contract (make sure it was in writing). I wouldn’t be worried about moving your daughter. She is young enough to make new friends in a new area that sounds WAY better environment. Check about breaking the lease, review your contract, look for free legal advice in your area.
