 Finding Forrester (2000)
IMDB rating: 7.20
Plot: Jamal Wallace is an inner-city kid from the Bronx who has an aptness at basketball and a genius at writing. While Jamal is given a heavy load at his new school, both he and the school know that the real reason they took him on is for his prowess on the court. Befriended by fellow student Claire and helped along by Pulitzer-prize winning author and recluse William Forrester, Jamal pursues his dreams both on and off the court while overcoming obstacles placed by his bitter literature teacher. As Jamal is shaped by Forrester, he finds that he is changing the old writer as well, forcing him to confront his past…and his future.

Does this sound like a good for a novel?
Katherine Caldwell is the most wanted girl at school by both guys and girls. She has a boyfriend who understands her and a best friend who she can always count on. She is described as a pure, angel-like girl with brunette hair and pale brown skin. She goes to a school called Bay Creek, while is a school for both Middle School and High School. She is in 7th grade and is going to lunch when she sees the mysterious and handsome Erik Forrester. Erik is described as a mysterious, handsome, and sweet guy with dark hazel brown hair and dark green eyes.
Erik is 15 years old and is in 8th grade. Katherine’s best friend, Jasmine, doesn’t like that Katherine likes him, because of his age and rumors that has spread the school. Katherine observes Erik a lot and can tell that he is different from other people and suspects that something is up. She thinks it is something like he is very dangerous and can hurt people, when it is something different. Her and a couple of class mates set up the renaissance dance that is the next day and she goes to the bathroom to wash the sweat from her face, when she comes upon someone who looks like her. Once she gets out of there she runs into Erik, who came from football practice, he gives her a ride to her friends place, where they read Katherine’s ancestors diary, Jasmine has a vision that someone will die at the dance, and they find out that Erik lived during the renaissance.
During the dance, Their coach Mrs. Rast is found in the bathroom with her throat slit open and a message beside her. The school jerk, 16 year old Chris Waters, assumes Erik did it, but cause of the note, what Erik did to Chris, and people were found up dead when he came. Luckly Erik wasn’t in the same room. Katherine goes to find Erik, but is stopped by Jasmine. Jasmine tells her about the dream she had of Mrs. Rast and that she thinks she knows who did it, but its really couldn’t be true cause the girl looked like Katherine. Katherine is shocked and is brought back to the inccident in the bathroom.
She finally finds Erik and helps him sneak past the police who doesn’t want anyone going in or out of the building. As the get out they are (again) stopped by Jasmine, but she isn’t like she really was. She seemed different, like someone else had taken over her body and this is when they realize she became possesed by her ancestor who is working with Erik’s emeny to bring all the dangerous things back to life.
So what do you think of the first book. I haven’t finished writing it, but is it good. You can say it’s bad if you want i want to know what i could do to make it better.
It sounds good but I need a few things cleared up: So this is what I’m thinking. Katherine finds out that Erik is actually from the renaissance (making him either a vampire or an immortal human) and that Mrs. Rast is found dead. Katherine also finds someone who looks like her. I have a few questions:
1. Is Erik a vampire or is he just immortal? How did he become immortal?
2. How did Katherine see the person who looked like her?
3. How did they find Katherine’s acenstor’s diary?
4. What makes Erik take Katherine to her friends house? How did the ancestor’s diary end up there?
5. Why does Chris assume Erik did it?
6. What rumors have spread to give people that type of prejudice toward Erik?
7. What dangerous things are coming?
8. Who is Erik’s enemy?
Also, no offense, but this sounds like a rip-off to the Vampire Diaries. Katherine is the name of a girl who was born around the renaissance time who looks just like Elena. Erik can be closely related to Stefan, where people don’t actually like him as well (mostly the guys.) Jasmine sounds like Elena’s friend Bonnie, who has visions and doesn’t really like Erik. And this unusual murder sounds like it is linked to Erik’s enemy, who, if I’m not mistaken, is a brother/cousin/former friend to Erik? The only thing different is that Katherine (your character) has a boyfriend and Katherine’s ancestor possesses Jasmine. Otherwise, this is actually a rip-off.
First, when I read this twice, I really didn’t understand the concept. You had some missing parts that needed to be explained. Second, if you do publish this, you possibly wouldn’t be sued for copyrighting, but some people might mistake this as a rip-off to Vampire Diaries. Also, I sense that this is going to be an ongoing series. I would consider changing up the plot and explaining minor things.
P.S. Your character, Katherine, is a Mary-Sue. I mean, by the first sentence, I knew that she was one. She seems to be popular. A little bit too popular. She also comes into connect with a possible vampire? That’s a huge cliche which has been done millions of times before. Before continuing your story, I suggest that you google Mary Sue Test, and take one of the test.

It sounds like it’s trying to be too many things. A supernatural thriller, a murder mystery, a romance, psychic mystery, etc. I think you need to cut out some of the things other wise you will end up spreading yourself too thin and not developing the plot well enough. Unless it’s absolutely necessary I would cut the part about Erik being from the Renaissance. The Journal was what I felt made the story feel kind of cheesy. I think murders and the psychic elements are good, but the past thing, not so much.
Another thing that sort of bugged me was the age of the characters. A 15 year old usually wont hang out with a 12 year old. It’s not cool. A 12 year old probably wouldn’t;t have a real boyfriend like you’re claiming Katherine has. She’s young, naive, and I seriously doubt any 12 ear old would help a boy sneak past the cops. I think you should bump the ages up about four or five years.

It sounds exactly like Vampire Diaries with a few names changed. Something original please?
Or you could just write it as a fan-fiction. Thats what it is, basically.
